Why Some People Stay ‘Hidden’ On Social Media

Why Some People Stay ‘Hidden’ On Social Media People who don’t appear on social media have started to be almost unknown. I am not saying that. Let’s ask you, don’t people who keep coming up with photos on your Facebook/Instagram account know you? Think for a moment before answering no. You may not have met those people, but you know them. Now remember all those unknowns. Yes, no scene came to mind.

That’s exactly how people who hide on social media are like that. Instead, they can recognize you. (If you keep your photo) But you can’t even guess them.

Studies have shown that the number of such groups on social media is very large. Which is called ‘Lurker’. That is, they consume other people’s content but do not post it themselves.

According to the Pew Research Center, about 60 to 70 percent of the total users of social media are ‘lurkers’. Some have taken their tendency as a kind of behavior of the digital world.

Private Life
Some people find the privacy of their personal lives very important. They want to stay away from the network because they fear that their private life will be made public when they are active on social media.

They fear that even from a simple post, others can judge different aspects of their life. They feel that sharing information about their private lives on social media is a violation of privacy.

In short, some people are less active on social media to protect their privacy.

Mental Health
Ed Sheeran (Passenger), the singer of famous songs like ‘Perfect’, ‘Shape of You’, and ‘Photograph’, has taken a break from social media many times. Emma Stone, the heroine of films like ‘Poor Things’, ‘And Amazing Spider-Man’, also stays away from social media.

They are good representative examples. Because they said mental health and personal life were the reasons for not appearing much on social media. Yes, social media can have a profound effect on mental health. The same when driving, the same when not driving (if you are used to it).

The number of likes, followers, shares, and comments creates constant pressure. “My post doesn’t even get 100 likes” If you use social media, you must have thought about it. Yes, such things cause stress, anxiety, and fear to some people.

Self shyness
Some people are afraid or hesitant that someone will say something bad about their post. Due to the fear of such negative reactions, they are afraid to post online content. They feel that their content is not getting enough attention or positive response. And why waste it, they retreat.

Introverted nature
Introverts may feel uncomfortable sharing their thoughts and life experiences openly on social media. Let’s understand that they prefer to stay in their limited social bubble in online life as in real life. Because of this, they like to stay hidden on social media.

Passive consumer
The style of consuming the materials uploaded on social networks (content consumption) also hides in some networks. Many people use social media as a source of information, entertainment, and news.

Their preference is to see new content, understand trends, and read other people’s thoughts and experiences. They may find it simpler and easier to consume content than to create it. They are passive consumers of content consumption.

Digital fatigue
People get tired even when they are constantly online. It is slightly different, like being tired from carrying a heavy load. In short, it is called digital fatigue. It means being mentally exhausted by consuming too much digital content. The nature of social media is to constantly keep people to themselves. Yes, by that very nature, people fall into digital fatigue. Despite this, people deliberately stay away from social media.

Digital Detox
Social media is now one of the most dangerous addictions. When people are overwhelmed with digital fatigue, they seek relief from it. That’s what digital detox is all about. A digital detox is a period in which people decide not to use any digital devices or social media. Digital detox also encourages people to hide from social media.

Flood of misinformation
There are innumerable examples of people reading the news of their own deaths through social media and publicizing events that did not happen. In short, there is a flood of false information on social media. It does not take time for such information to spread again. Some people try to stay away from the network to avoid this.

Time management
Believe it or not, if you start using TikTok, you will not know that time has passed. why Because running Tik Tok is fun for you. And time does not pass. In this sense, spending time on social media means reducing time on personal, professional, and creative work. Why consider the previous example.

Online Tracking and Data Protection
Every activity done on social media is tracked by the respective companies and personal data is collected. To survive this process, some people stay hidden on social media. Those who value data security may want to stay away from social media to protect their information from being made public.

But is it okay to stay hidden or not to run the network at all? At the present time, perhaps the answer to this question is no. Why now social media has become a source of information. A lot of information will certainly be missed if the network is not running.
