Follow These Important Security Tips To Avoid Getting Scammed On WhatsApp
Hackers are using various methods to rob users, including exploiting social media. Scammers are ensnaring WhatsApp users by showing various offers and lures. But if you can take some precautions, you can avoid being cheated in time.
Tofa
WhatsApp has an option of Two Factor Authentication (TwoFA), which is also known as Two Step Verification. This system provides extra security to your WhatsApp account.
After enabling it, the next time you log in, WhatsApp will ask for a PIN or biometric authentication, so that no one can easily access your account.
Follow the below procedure to enable TwoFA:
- Go to WhatsApp settings.
- Tap on ‘Account’ and select the ‘Two Step Verification’ option.
- Enter the 6-digit pin number.
- If you forget your PIN number, you will be asked for an email to reset it, enter your official email address and verify.
This way you can keep your account safe.
Block and report suspicious numbers
If you are receiving frequent calls or messages from unknown numbers and they are talking about finances, you should be cautious.
Scammers try to trick you with offers that offer many benefits at low prices. In such cases, block such numbers and report to WhatsApp.
Only trust meta-verified business accounts
WhatsApp provides separate accounts for personal and business purposes. When purchasing goods or services from any company, only trust accounts are verified by Meta.
Verified accounts have a blue tick. If the account is not verified, take special care while doing financial transactions.
Scammers try to gain your trust by making constant calls or messages. They call or send messages from different numbers.
To avoid this, WhatsApp has a ‘Silence Unknown Calls’ feature, which automatically mutes calls from numbers that are not in your contact list.
Follow the below procedure to turn on this feature:
- Go to WhatsApp settings.
- Click on ‘Privacy’ and tap on ‘Calls’.
- Toggle on the ‘Silence Unknown Colors’ option by clicking on it.
This way you can avoid unnecessary calls. Recently, as spam calls have increased on WhatsApp, Meta is preparing to introduce a new feature to automatically block unknown numbers. After the arrival of this feature, it can be believed that the spam on WhatsApp will be reduced to some extent.
