Most Of The Providers Started Broadcasting Pirated And Stolen Indian TV Channels Television and cable distributors have started broadcasting closed Indian TV channels through pirated channels. Due to the dispute over the Alacarta price system, the Indian network stopped broadcasting the channel due to non-payment.
All the small distributors like Dishhome, NetTV, ViaTV, Clear TV, Broad TV, etc. are broadcasting Indian TV channels through pirated media. While Indian broadcasters and television networks have not yet officially resumed their Nepal broadcasts.
According to Dhruv Sharma, president of the National Cable Television Business Association, all Nepali distributors of foreign channels are currently suspended. He is also the owner of Digital System Nepal, one of the leading television channel distributor companies in Nepal. Which is a distributor of Sony Pictures, India Cast (Colors), HBO, and Discovery Channel Network.
DNB Holding is the remaining distributor of Star and Zee TV for Nepal. Both these distributors have said that since 17 July 2081, no downlinking of any Indian television channel has been done. But all the closed television channels are now broadcasting in Nepal.
Similarly, the channels of Star Sports, Sony, Zee TV, and Colors were operating on Subisu’s Clear TV. Dishhome, the country’s only DTH service provider, also has channels from Star, Colors, Sony, and Zee Network running.
Apart from this, while preparing this news, the channels of Sony, Colors, and Zee TV are running on Broadlink’s Broad TV, while the channels of networks like Colors, Zee, and others have started opening on Nepal Telecom’s NTTV. Max Digital TV also broadcasts most of the Indian channels.
50 percent of the fee collected from customers for watching foreign paid channels is allocated to the respective distributor and 50 percent to the broadcaster. Sharma said that out of the 50 percent that the broadcaster receives, 10 percent is received by the distributors, and the remaining amount is paid 15 percent TDS to the government, and the broadcaster takes its income abroad.
“According to the existing law, the broadcasting of foreign television channels in Nepal must be done through a distributor,” he says, “but now it is not known how the distributor is broadcasting.”
Based on Sharma’s statement, it is estimated that there are one to one and a half lakh subscribers under the cable distributor, three to four lakh under DTH, and the remaining 10/12 lakh IPTV subscribers.
It is said that internet service providers have already sold two-year packages with IPTV and are charging only the minimum fee for TV. On the other hand, internet service providers are under financial pressure due to the court ruling that they have to pay the arrears of royalties and rural telecommunication development fund fees.
Thus, due to various reasons, the service providers have not implemented the Alacarta price system in television distribution and broadcasting.
Currently, there are six cable television providers (MSOs) based on digital technology in Nepal. The owner of an MSO, which is the provider of the headend, said that he was also forced to broadcast in a pirated form because he could not withstand the pressure of the local cable television distributor.
“Someone here has been broadcasting a pirated TV channel for the past two years,” he said. “While following the government’s rules, we are the only ones left here to abuse customers, bear pressure from small cable distributors, and lose the market.”
Lately, it seems that the distributor does not want to send out the money he has as much as possible.”
Corrected: It has been corrected that Sony Network channels are running uninterrupted even on Classic Tech’s Cairo TV. Rojit Bhattarai, general manager of the company, claimed that all Indian channels in their network are down.
