Lumbini Pradesh Launching Integrated Data Portal The Lumbini state government has taken the preparation of the integrated DEDA portal to the final stage. Khim Bahadur Kunwar, Secretary of the Provincial Planning Commission, gave this information at a provincial-level workshop held in Butwal on Friday under the Data for Development Program.
Secretary Kunwar said that statistics play an important role in planning and policymaking by the province. He said that the preparation of the integrated data portal of the State Planning Commission has reached its final stage and informed that preparations are being made to make it public. “The work of maintaining statistics in an integrated manner is continuing,” he said. “Shortly, the province’s integrated statistics portal will be launched. It will play an important role by providing data in the evidence-based decision-making process.
With the support of UK International Development, the Asia Foundation is conducting a Data for Development program in Nepal. Under this, a provincial-level workshop has been organized in Butwal. The program will last for two days.
Statistics such as labor, poverty, and education play a major role in building strategic plans, periodical plans, and planning banks to bring backward classes and areas to the mainstream of development,” he said. “Therefore, data should be included as an important part of development.”
Sunwal Municipality head Vimala Aryal said that it is a good thing that the work of integrated statistics has started in Nepal as the international world is becoming technology-friendly. She said that facts and figures are important for good governance.
The CEO of the Electronic Governance Commission, Dipesh Bista, the Secretary of the National Statistics Office, Gokarnamani Duwadi, and the Joint Secretary, Hemraj Regmi, also participated in the program.
The Asia Foundation has been conducting a Data for Development program since 2020 in Lumbini, Madhes, and Karnali provinces. The project director of the organization, Pranay Satham, said that the ongoing workshop is a program of learning and sharing. “Here we have invited certain local levels under Lumbini to exchange what work has been done in e-governance, data governance, and information technology,” he said.
