Locarno Shah Rukh: Acting, Cinema And Hollywood I believe that cinema is the most effective and profoundly impactful artistic medium of our time’, said Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, who went on stage to accept the Career Achievement Award given to him at the 77th Locarno Film Festival, sharing his thoughts on cinema to an audience of around 8,000.
I got to spend some years of my life as a part of this medium. I have learned something from this journey, I have felt it”, he then spoke briefly about the importance of cinema art and its effectiveness.
This film festival held in Locarno, Switzerland is one of the oldest and most important film festivals in Europe. The “Piazza Grande” is famous for its magnificence, where nearly 8,000 spectators watch movies under the open sky at night in the city square. Big stars of world cinema arrive here with their films. This year, the screening of the Nepali film Sambala directed by Meen Bahadur Bham was also held on this screen. Devdas directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali starring Shah Rukh was also screened here.
Shah Rukh acted in many television serials before emerging on the big screen of Bollywood with Deewana in 1992. Shah Rukh, who acted in dramas with Manoj Bajpayee, Raghuvir Yadav, and others in Berry Zone’s group in Delhi, made global recognition and influence in Bollywood through Bollywood films. Appreciating this, this year Locarno honored him with the Achievement Award.
This honor received by Shahrukh Khan has been discussed in media in India and around the world. His speeches and interviews are also discussed. Shah Rukh, who studied mass media and started acting in cinema, is also considered eloquent. In Locarno, he spoke clearly about cinema, his career, and prospects in an interview with Variety.
My dream is that one day Hindi films will be seen globally the way Hollywood films are seen. I want to be a part of such Indian films, be it as an actor or as a lightman as a producer, a writer, or as a presenter. I want to see the Indian story accepted by the world and be a part of it.
He has also spoken about his ‘break’ of more than a year and a half. I did not take a break because of the failure of the film. What I always had was, the day when I wake up in the morning I think I don’t want to shoot today, that day I won’t shoot. I was starting the shooting of a film in January, one day in December I called the producer early in the morning and told him in a very unprofessional way, ‘I don’t want to come to the shoot of this film’. He told me that this is not possible, you can’t stay even for a minute without working, so tell me if you don’t like the film or else don’t say that I won’t work.
