Kava Women’s Volleyball: Nepal Excited By The First Win Nepal has made a winning start in the Kava Women’s Volleyball Nations League which started in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in straight sets in the tournament in which five countries from Central Asia namely Nepal, India, Iran, Sri Lanka, and Maldives participated.
Nepal was defeated in sets of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-19. In the second set, Sri Lanka took a 4-2 lead, but Nepal returned to the rhythm and stopped Sri Lanka at 18.
Nepal was trailing until Sri Lanka scored 15 points in the third set. After equalizing 15 points, Nepal took the lead and won.
The Nepali team is excited after getting three points in Thursday’s match. Captain Aruna Shahi says, ‘Last time we played we won by playing best of 5, this time we are very happy to lose in straight sets.’
Captain Shahi said that Sri Lanka took the lead in the third set of today’s match due to some mistakes in setting. In the third set, my setting was a mistake. In the third set, the ball was slipping out of my hands. There was a mistake even when passing the jump. Later, after changing the setter, we returned to the game,” she said.
Coach Bhatt said that this game will prove to be a turning point for the future of volleyball in Nepal. In the press conference held after the match, he said, “If we win this title, the game of volleyball will go up a lot, so we are fighting for the title very seriously.”
Thursday’s result for Nepal was expected. Captain Shahi says that this win is good practice before the match against India. The first win has increased confidence. This game was like a practice before playing against India. We will have to work harder to play against India”, she said.
Excellent performance by two new players
In Thursday’s match, Sumitra Regmi and Aarti Subedi made their official debut in the big tournament. Coach Jagdish Bhatt said that they performed well in the first match.
They are players who have been leading the Nepali women’s team for 5/7 years. The kind of performance they performed for the first time in the international arena is excellent, he said.
Sumitra did well in the block on Thursday. The Nepali team also got the advantage of his spike and height at times. Captain Aruna Shahi also praised both the new players. “The new sisters who came to the team are doing well,” she said.
Receiver Salina Shrestha also performed well in Thursday’s game. The audience cheered when Salina picked up the ball.
