According to a report by Moneycontrol, Apple will produce the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max at a plant in Tamil Nadu, India, in collaboration with its partner company Foxconn. Even earlier, Apple had prepared the iPhone 15 in India for Indian customers. This time, it is said that the iPhone 16 will be produced in the Indian plant for the domestic market as well as the South Asian market.
Similarly, there is talk that Apple may also produce the iPad in India in collaboration with Foxconn. However, Apple has not officially said anything about this.
But recently, Apple increased its production capacity in India, Foxconn itself building Apple’s plant, and Apple’s move to reduce its independence in the Chinese market is expected to confirm this.
In 2017, Apple started manufacturing smartphones in India with the first-generation iPhone SE. In recent years, the production of iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models has expanded. Recently iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have also started to be manufactured in India.
Apple’s preparation to produce the iPhone 16 Pro model in India has raised interest in how it will affect the price of the iPhone in the Nepali market. But in the past, there was no case of the iPhone being cheaper in Nepal because it was produced in an Indian plant.
However, it can be analyzed that the price of the iPhone will decrease due to the possibility of exemption from the customs tax imposed on the import of goods produced in India in Nepal. Also, since the cost of transporting goods from India to Nepal is less, it can be estimated that it will be cheaper than the international price.
On the other hand, after iPhone production starts in India, the competition with other brands of phones may increase in the Nepali market. As a result, Apple may change its iPhone pricing strategy.
But so far, Apple does not seem to have taken any concrete steps in the plan to send the iPhone at a cheap price to the South Asian market including Nepal.
