Nokia CEO Made World’s First 3D Call Nokia’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pekka Lundmark has made a 3D call for the first time in the world under a cellular network. CEO Lundmark made a 3D call through the ‘Three GPP Immersive Audio and Video Services (IVAS) Codec’ technology.
His 3D call was held with Stefan Lindström, Ambassador of Digitalization and New Technology of Finland, on June 10. Nokia’s 5G network and smartphones were used for the conversation.
Immersive audio and video calls are much better than normal conversations. Because it does not sound normal like speaking on a phone call. Users can hear lively sounds on it. In this type of call, users can listen to 3D spatial audio rather than the monophonic voice available in today’s smartphones.
Due to the monophonic voice, today’s phone conversations have less audio distortion and less detail. As a result, quality sound cannot be heard. But due to 3D spatial audio, users can hear the same sound as if they were talking to each other.
Dual microphones are available in recent smartphones. Therefore, Nokia believes that this technology can be implemented in those phones.
This technology is under the 5G advanced standard that Nokia will bring in the coming days. Because Nokia is also trying to get a license for this technology. If it is possible, within a few years, common users will be able to use this technology easily.
