Before the rebrand to X, the platform did not explicitly ban pornographic content. Later, when the Twitter Blue (now X Premium) service came, the creator who took the subscription would be able to keep obscene content. Users had to pay a fee to view such content. This was exactly the same feature as the platform called ‘Only Fans’.
It is said that after Twitter became owned by Musk and became X, the policy was changed to generate income from the same obscene content.
Apart from that, the new policy will ban such videos if they are found to be sexually abused, show minors or minors, or seek to gain criminal benefits. According to the company, obscene photos or videos cannot be placed in the profile picture or banner.
According to Reuters, in 2022 alone, 13 percent of posts on X were adult content. With X’s new policy, this number is expected to increase even more. Apart from that, obscene videos have been made using deepfake technology recently. A big question has arisen as to how X regulates such videos.
