Scientific Reason is that the Solar Eclipse will be Completely Dark During the Day Today, in different parts of America, Mexico, and Canada, it is going to be completely dark. The reason for that is the total solar eclipse. According to the International Space Agency NASA, a total solar eclipse will occur in America at 2:00 PM (12:30 PM according to Nepali time).
Today we are discussing what eclipses are, the scientific reasons behind eclipses, and why some eclipses are rarely seen.
What is Eclipse?
The speed at which the Earth moves around the Sun and the speed at which the Moon moves around the Earth are not the same. It is this inequality that causes the eclipse. Due to the inequality of speed, by chance of time these bodies (Earth, Moon, and Sun) arrive in the same straight line. As a result, sometimes the shadow of the earth falls on the moon, and sometimes the shadow of the moon falls on the earth. Eclipse is the state where the shadow falls like this.
When the Earth intercepts the Sun falling on the Moon, the Moon casts its shadow on the Earth is called a Lunar Eclipse. Similarly, a situation where only half or a part is covered is called a partial lunar eclipse.
Similarly, a solar eclipse is a situation where the moon comes between the Earth and the sun when the earth orbits the sun and the moon orbits the earth. When the moon falls between the sun, the light of the sun coming to the earth is blocked and the earth becomes dark. Yes, this situation is called a solar eclipse. There are three types of solar eclipses. Partial Solar Eclipse, Annular Solar Eclipse, and Khagras Solar Eclipse (Total Solar Eclipse).
How rare is a total solar eclipse?
According to the Royal Museum Greenwich, a total solar eclipse is seen only once in 400 years from the same location. It is considered very rare because the moon falls between the sun and the earth and the sunlight has to be cut in a precise way. Especially when the moon moves around the earth, the shadow of the sun is cut off, but it takes time to come to the state where it is completely cut off. Also, there are two to five solar eclipses every year. However, a total solar eclipse occurs every 18 months. Similarly, to see the view of a total solar eclipse, one should be in a place where the darkest part of the shadow falls. Which is also called ‘Umbra’. Since it occupies a very small part of the earth, not everyone can see this scene.
During a total solar eclipse, the sky becomes dark. If the weather is favorable, people sitting to watch the solar eclipse can see the outer atmospheric layer of the sun called ‘corona’. In other cases, due to the bright light of the sun, that layer is not visible.
Due to the total solar eclipse, the timetable of the creatures is disturbed!
According to the BBC, North Carolina State University professor Adam Heartstone is spending his days at the Fort Worth Texas Zoo today. He is going to spend his days at the zoo to observe the strange behavior of gorillas, giraffes, and turtles. During the eclipse of the year 2017, the turtles started mating suddenly on the same day.
Many animals reacted strangely to the sudden darkness. “Flamingos (a type of bird) did a good job last time,” says Adam, “As the eclipse approached, the adult flamingos gathered the chicks in the middle of the flock and looked up at the sky. Because they were worried that the air raiders were coming down.”
NASA live streaming of the solar eclipse
Similarly, the American space agency NASA will also broadcast the solar eclipse live. The live will start at 11:15 pm according to Nepali time.
