The United States is Preparing to Ban TikTok The lower house of the US Parliament has passed a bill that could impose a complete ban on TikTok nationwide. Last Wednesday, the US Parliament passed a bill to ban Tiktok.
 
In the bill, it is mentioned that if the main company, ByteDance, gives the ownership of TikTok to the US, it will not be banned. If ownership is not given to the US, it is mentioned in the bill that TikTok will be completely banned. To pass this bill, both the Republican and Democratic parties voted in the lower house. There were 352 votes in favor of the bill and 65 votes against it.
 
Now that this bill has been passed by the US upper house and signed by the president, it will become law. President Joe Biden has already announced that he will sign the bill as soon as it is passed by the House. In addition, the United States has already banned TikTok on government devices.
 
In particular, TikTok has been accused of providing the data of American users to the Chinese government and using algorithms to influence the American people. Tiktok, in its defense, said that it did not misuse any data of American users but instead started ‘Project Texas’. On the other hand, responding to this move by the US, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin warned that the initiative to shut down Tik Tok would be “counterproductive for the US.”.
