In a program called ‘Artificial Intelligence and Employment Opportunities for a Prosperous Nepal’ held in the capital on Sunday, experts have suggested that a course on AI should be held at the school level.
Chief Scientist and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vijayak Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Suresh Manandhar, said that in order to develop skills needed for the AI industry in Nepal, the educational system needs to be reformed.
Therefore, investing in quality higher education is the need of the moment, he said. “Becoming an AI engineer does not require a four-year undergraduate course. Two years is enough to impart the required skills.”
The chairman of the Association of Engineering Colleges of Nepal (ACON), E. Hirendraman Pradhan, also seemed to agree with him. He opined that although Nepal wants to use AI, there is a lack of skilled manpower.
For this, it is necessary to change the policy of education. And, by changing the curriculum itself, information about AI should be given at the school level. So that the basic skills and knowledge of it are at the school level so that the students go,” he said.
The director of Samsung Nepal, Pranairatna, said that the government should select the right partner to prepare skilled manpower for AI. He is of the opinion that since AI is always changing and developing, training is essential to catch
that rhythm.
