A Powerful 7.6 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Japan 2024 on Monday, killing at least one person, destroying buildings, knocking out power to tens of thousands of homes, and prompting residents in some coastal areas to flee to higher ground.
The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6, triggered waves of about 1 meter along Japan’s west coast and neighboring South Korea. It was the strongest quake in the region in more than four decades, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
On New Year’s Day, police and local authorities early on January 2 reported cases of bodies being pulled from the rubble of collapsed buildings. Public broadcaster NHK reported doctors were unable to reach the hospital in the hard-hit town of Suzu.
Most people will be shocked to learn that this earthquake will happen in Japan. Even some parts of the structure will be investigated by police in order to identify the person responsible for the updates.
