The cancellation of CG Telecom’s license obtained by CG Communications Limited, a telecommunication company owned by Chaudhary Group, for rural telecommunication services has been revoked. According to Nepal Telecommunication Authority sources, the company seeking a basic telephone service license for mobile service expansion will automatically cancel the license if it does not apply for renewal in time.
CG Telecom received permission for rural telecommunication services from the Nepal Telecommunication Authority on November 5, 2060. When obtaining the permit, it was stated that the permit will be maintained only after the company submits the ‘Letter of Credit’, so the date of the first renewal was fixed on Mangsir 16 (December 2).
However, if the company did not submit the application on time, it would be terminated according to the provisions of the Telecommunications Act. According to sub-section 5 of Section 25 of the Telecommunication Act, 2053, the license obtained by CG for rural telecommunication services is automatically cancelled.
The duration of the license is 25 years, but the law provides that a license cannot be granted for a period of more than 10 years at a time. Expiration of the license by the licensee who wishes to renew the license.
In sub-rule 2 of Rule 12 of 2054, it is stipulated that an application should be made to the authority three months before the expiry of the permit period.According to the rules clearly mentioned in the Telecommunications Act and Regulations, if the company’s license is not submitted in time for renewal, the license will automatically be revoked.
According to the sources of the authority, the application to be submitted in October was registered with the authority by CG only on November 22. An additional 15% penalty can be allowed as per the provisions in the regulations.
It seems that if the company submits an application with an old date, it expects the license to be renewed from the authority,” said an officer of the authority, “but there was no basis for renewal.”
When applying for renewal, the company should apply for renewal by depositing the renewal fee in the authority’s bank account and including its voucher as specified.
But this license was cancelled while the government of Nepal was not paying the tax. The government of Nepal will invest in this case to cancel this license in Nepal. Without a license, they are doing it illegally in Nepal. This company wants to cancel their license on it.
