In a statement provided to the AP by Masha Vitali, his children said, “Leon was a special and lovely man driven by his curiosity, who spread love and warmth wherever he went. He will be remembered with love and be hugely missed by the many people he touched.”

In addition to his behind-the-scenes work with Kubrick, Vitali also appeared on-screen in “Eyes Wide Shut” (1999) and in the documentary ” Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures” (2001). He continues to work in the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera.

His wife, Christiane, and his two daughters, Katharina and Vivian, were all at his side. He is survived by his brother, sister, and three grandchildren. There will be a private funeral held in the UK and a memorial here in Los Angeles, CA.

In his later years, Kubrick was working on A.I., a science-fiction film that would have been released by Warner Bros. if the director had lived long enough to finish it. The film was released in June, and Kubrick was credited as the executive producer.
