Today Is Dashain Tika: The Auspicious Time Is 10:26 AM. Today, Vijaya Dashami is being celebrated as part of Bada Dashain, the great festival of the Nepali people. On this day, people receive “tika”, “jamara”, and blessings from elders as “prasad” (divine offerings) of the Goddess.
According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee, the most auspicious time (saiit) for receiving “tika” this year is at 10:26 AM. The Committee has set 8:49 AM as the auspicious time for “Devi Visarjan” (the ritual conclusion of the Goddess’s invocation).
According to the committee chairperson, Associate Professor Dr Purushottam Bhattarai, although “tika” can be received throughout the day on Vijaya Dashami, 10:26 AM has been designated as the auspicious time (sait) for those who wish to receive it at a specific, ritually prescribed moment.
The elder bestowing the “tika” should face east, while the person receiving it should face west.
According to the committee, when receiving “tika” at the auspicious time, the elder bestowing the “tika” should face east, while the person receiving it should face west.
During Dashain, there is a tradition of worshipping the “Navadurga Bhavani” (the nine manifestations of the Goddess) and receiving “tika” and “jamara” as “prasad” (blessed offerings) from the Goddess. On this occasion, family members and relatives gather together to receive blessings from their elders.
As Nepalis living away from home—whether for employment, studies, or various professions—return to their native places to celebrate Dashain, this festival serves as an occasion for family reunions.
During Bada Dashain, which is celebrated as a national festival in Nepal, “tika”, “jamara”, and blessings are received primarily on the main day of the festival. In some places, the tradition of receiving “tika” and blessings from elders continues until Kojagrat Purnima.
