Apple Announced iPhone 16e features a larger 6.1-inch OLED display, up from a 4.7-inch LCD on the iPhone SE. The display has a notch for Face ID, and this means that Apple no longer sells any iPhones with a Touch ID fingerprint button, marking the end of an era.

The iPhone 16e is powered by an A18 chip, enabling support for Apple Intelligence features, such as notification summaries and Genmoji for creating custom emojis. In the iPhone 16e, the A18 chip has a 6-core CPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, but a binned 4-core GPU. The A18 chip in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus has a 5-core GPU.

The 48MP Fusion camera takes gorgeous photos and videos, and with an integrated 2x Telephoto, it is like having two cameras in one, so users can zoom in with optical quality. When outside of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage, Apple’s groundbreaking satellite features — including Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via satellite — help iPhone 16e users stay connected and get assistance when it matters most.

iPhone 16e will be available in two elegant matte finishes—black and white—with colourful cases to accessorize. Pre-orders begin Friday, February 21, and availability begins Friday, February 28.

We’ll have to see how well the iPhone 16e actually performs. But with the Android market already offering some compelling iPhone alternatives around $600, like the OnePlus 13R, Apple may have difficulty courting buyers who aren’t already locked into the Apple ecosystem.

You can preorder the Apple iPhone 16e on Apple’s website in black and matte white, starting Friday, Feb. 21. Its price starts at $599 for 128GB. Shipping begins Feb. 28.
