illegal Online Betting Platform ‘Metabet’ is in Operation Targeting Nepali A separate online betting website has been launched targeting Nepali users. Online betting called ‘Metabet 63’ NP has been operating illegally.
At present, boosting and advertising on Facebook are also being done to promote the website. Its Facebook page has more than six thousand followers.
Metabet has been introducing itself as a live casino. It seems that this betting site was launched on the occasion of the world-famous cricket league, the IPL.
In Nepal, both the act of playing and such online betting are prohibited. However, this new website has not been blocked by the regulator, the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, since the time of preparing this news.
For its payment, Citizens Bank, Everest Bank, Global IME Bank, Prabhu Bank, Lakshmi Bank, Machhapuchhre Bank, NIC Asia Bank, Nepal SBI Bank, and Connect IPS logos have also been included.
Also, other betting sites like ONEX Bet, Dafa Bet, Ulf 777, and Nijmegen are operating openly. The promotion and business of such platforms are done by targeting social media users.
Section 3 of the Gambling Act 2020 states that gambling is prohibited. Sub-section 1 of Section 3 reads, “No person shall gamble, play or pretend to be gambling or engage in gambling or gambling in any house, room, or place belonging to his right or his enjoyment or responsibility, or reside in a gambling place.”
In Section 4 of the Act, various punishments have been provided for those who do or cause acts prohibited in Section 3.
Similarly, in Section 5, Sub-Section 1(b) of the Advertising (Regulation) Act, 2066, there is a provision that no advertisement should be made on the matter of encouraging people to play gambling or buy lottery tickets that are not permitted according to the prevailing law.
