Altman’s Response To Musk’s Offer To Buy OpenAI: I’d Rather Buy ‘X’ The dispute between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk has entered a new phase. Altman, rejecting Musk’s offer to buy OpenAI, has instead expressed his desire to buy Musk’s social network X for $9.74 billion.
Musk bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion and rebranded it as ‘X’. Musk recently offered to buy OpenAI for $97.4 billion. According to Musk’s lawyer, Musk wanted to restore OpenAI as a non-profit organization with the help of his AI startups and investment institutions.
The dispute comes amid growing tensions between Musk and Altman over the leadership and future of OpenAI. Musk and Altman founded OpenAI in 2015 to develop AI technology for humanity’s benefit. However, the dispute began after Musk resigned from the board. In 2023, Musk filed a lawsuit in California over OpenAI’s AI research and commercial partnerships.
The dispute over OpenAI’s future and research has deepened. Altman was removed from his position at the end of 2023 but was reinstated. The conflict between the two could become more complicated in the future.
