Apple Apologizes After Its AI Wrote Something That Wasn’t Happening Apple’s AI system has been in trouble again. The AI, which has been making mistakes all along, has now spread false information about tennis player Rafael Nadal, misleading users by saying he is gay.
Apple’s AI has previously sent notifications that tennis champion Luke Littler won before the match started. Three weeks ago, it falsely reported that Luigi Mangione, the man accused of murdering United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, had committed suicide.
Such repeated mistakes have been analyzed to have seriously affected users’ trust in Apple.
After damaging its reputation, Apple apologized and promised to release a software update to fix the problem. “We are serious about improving AI based on user feedback,” Apple said.
Apple’s AI feature was first released in October 2024. The company says it summarizes notifications. However, the feature has become controversial due to persistent misinformation. Experts have recommended that it not be used in the news sector until the AI system is more mature.
