Bill Gates Will Be Poor The Day Tesla Becomes The World’s Most Valuable Company: Elon Musk Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has been posting on the social media platform X almost every day. Musk recently became the first person in history to have a net worth of $400 billion. At the same time, Musk commented on X’s post, which has further intensified the dispute between Microsoft founder and former CEO Bill Gates and Musk.
Musk said in response to the post, “If Tesla becomes the most valuable company in the world, Bill Gates could go bankrupt.” Musk’s comment is related to Gates’ previous ‘short position’.
But he didn’t get the chance to buy those shares at a cheap price, as Tesla’s price continued to rise. Thus, Gates’ short position is said to have cost him $1.5 billion.
Tesla’s shares have risen 56.91 per cent this year. Tesla’s shares have been rising since Donald Trump won the presidential election. Tesla continues to perform impressively, but it still lags behind Apple. Apple Inc.’s market capitalization is currently $3.729 trillion, while Tesla’s is worth $1.251 trillion.
A short position is a strategy where an investor bets that a company’s stock will fall sharply. Bill Gates did the same with the expectation that Tesla would soon be on the road. According to him, Gates is still betting a large amount of money that Tesla’s price will fall. Musk estimates that as Tesla’s stock continues to rise day by day, Bill Gates could become poor due to this bet.
