Stop Selling iPhone 16 In Indonesia The sale of iPhone 16 has been banned in Indonesia. According to the Ministry of Industry of the country, this step has been taken against Apple for not following the rules mandating the use of 40% local ingredients.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry, Fabri Hendri Antony Arif, said that the sale was stopped after Apple’s commitment to invest in local materials was not fulfilled. This is why imported iPhone 16 models are not allowed to be sold in Indonesia. iPhone 16 brought from abroad for personal use can be used by paying tax.
Last April, during the visit of Apple CEO Tim Cook to Indonesia, he expressed his commitment to increase the use of local materials in production by partnering with local companies. But so far, Apple has not established a factory for iPhone production in Indonesia. However, it has been setting up app developer academies across the country since 2018, investing millions in them.
Chinese brand Oppo is currently the best-selling smartphone in Indonesia, while Samsung is in second place. Indonesia has not yet given any information about how long this ban on the sale of Apple’s iPhone 16 will last.
