Who Made The iPhone

Who Made The iPhone 17 years ago today, on January 9, 2007, Apple released its first iPhone. Blackberry dominated the smartphone market at that time. People hardly imagined that another company would be born to compete with Blackberry. At that time, almost everyone had the hobby of carrying the phone Blackberry company, which has more than eight and a half million customers.

Carrying a Blackberry phone was seen as a sign of dignity or high status. Government officials, rich people, businessmen, and employees of big companies all used Blackberry smartphones at that time.

On January 9, 2007, when Steve Jobs took the stage and announced the iPhone, the definition of a smartphone changed. Before that, in 2001, Apple introduced the iPod (a device that can listen to music). The company launched its own iTunes Music Store platform in 2003 after the iPod made a good impact on the market. This also helped establish the iPod as a revolutionary product.

On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs took the stage to announce a new product. And, the Mac released in 1984 and the iPod released in 2001 revolutionized the music industry. And, he indicated that the device that will be released now will change the world of smartphones.

“Today we are announcing three revolutionary products,” Steve Jobs said 17 years ago when announcing the first iPhone, “The first product is the iPod with a wide screen and touch control. The second is a revolutionary mobile phone and the third product is a breakthrough internet communication device.”

After his speech, there was continuous applause for some time.

Everyone had predicted that these three Ota devices would capture the market. Before that, many people expected that the company had brought a new product by modifying the same devices that Apple had brought to the market which proved to be useful. Stopping the continuous applause for some time, he started to speak.

At this time, the heartbeat of everyone present there was increasing. Everyone was imagining what the other features of this product would be like. After repeating the same sentence three times in a row, he said, “These three devices are not separate devices, now there will be one device with these features.” And that’s what we call the iPhone.”

The phone was put on sale in the market on 29 June 2007, six months after its release. We are seeing the next story.

Who designed the iPhone?

In earlier iPhones, below the Apple logo, it was mentioned that the iPhone was designed in California and assembled in China. Recently, the iPhone that came to the market includes glass on the back. It does not contain any text except the logo.

However, on the box of the iPhone, it can be seen that “Design in California” and “Assembled in China” are written.

First, the iPhone was designed and developed under the leadership of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. It is said that he envisioned the iPhone. In the biography of Steve Jobs written by Walter Isaacson, it is mentioned who was in the iPhone design team.

Jonathan Ive, who designed the iPhone under the leadership of Jobs, is one. Known as Jony Ive, he was the head of Apple at that time Was a designer. He played a major role in the hardware design of the iPhone.

Similarly, software engineer and former vice president of Apple, Scott Forstall, also played an important role in designing the iPhone. He developed the iPhone software interface ‘iOS’. He took the lead in developing a different kind of OS keeping in mind the user experience of the iPhone.

Similarly, Apple’s former retail head, Angela Ahrendts, contributed significantly to the distribution and brand management of the iPhone. With his strategy, the iPhone became successful in the market.

Apple’s current chief executive officer (CEO) Tim Cook brought further improvements in the production and distribution process of the iPhone. He implemented the latest strategies in supply chain management and made the iPhone available worldwide.

How is the iPhone made?

First of all, the work of research and development of the iPhone will go ahead. The iPhone is then designed at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. This team designs the iPhone’s hardware, software, and user experience. Apple’s top engineers, designers, and programmers work together to bring design to life.

After this, raw materials like metal, glass, and plastic are collected from different countries. Various companies produce essential components like chips, cameras, and batteries for Apple. Apple’s official manufacturing partners then assemble these components to make an iPhone. This process mainly takes place in China. After quality testing, iPhones are packaged and sent to Apple Stores and authorized resellers around the world.

Production and Assembling

There are various stages in the production of the iPhone. Until today, the main assembly of the iPhone has been done in China. iPhone 16 is also said to be assembled in India. In the stage of iPhone production, its processor, and camera sensor are manufactured.

Processor: The iPhone’s main chip ‘A series’ is designed in America. It is manufactured in Taiwan by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Screen: iPhone’s display is manufactured by South Korea’s Samsung and LG and Japan’s Japan Display Company (JDI).

Camera: iPhone camera modules are manufactured in different countries. It is being built especially in Japan and South Korea. Sony Corporation produces camera sensors for the iPhone.

Fingerprint Sensor and Face ID: These security recognition components are made by various manufacturers in the US, Europe, and Asia.

Assembling

After all the necessary components in the iPhone are ready, the assembly process begins. Until now, iPhone assembly work has been done by China’s big manufacturing companies like Foxconn, Pegatron, and Luxshare.

They combine the various parts of the iPhone and prepare it as a final product.

distribution

Once assembled, Apple ships its products worldwide. Distribution centers are mainly located in the US, China, and Europe. From there, the iPhone is sent to countries around the world.

Such was the first iPhone

Apple started a secret project called ‘Project California’ to develop the iPhone. Some talented engineers and designers of the company were involved in this project. Their goal was to create a device that would make a mobile phone more than just a phone. A device that holds the whole world in the palm of our hands.

But this journey was not so easy. How to include the power of a powerful computer in a small device? How to bring a phone, internet, music player, camera and many other features together?

Apple engineers worked day and night to overcome these challenges. They developed new technologies, and modified old technologies as well. Made revolutionary changes in both hardware and software. Finally, they created a device that shocked the world. It was a device, an iPhone.

Apple’s first iPhone with a 3.5-inch display had a Samsung ARM processor. The phone had a 2-megapixel main camera but no selfie camera. It included an ambient light sensor, multitouch feature, accelerometer, and proximity sensor.

The device with 128 MB RAM was available in 4, 8, and 16 GB internal storage variants. Also, it was equipped with a 1400 mAh battery, the price of which was fixed by the company at 499 US dollars.
