The Ban On TikTok Has Been Lifted The ban on TikTok has been lifted in Nepal. A minister informed that the cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided to lift the ban on TikTok. He also said that TikTok has been instructed to complete the standards and procedures set by the Nepalese government within three months.
The then government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ banned TikTok in Nepal through the cabinet meeting on 27 Kartik 2080, saying it was hurting social harmony and the social environment.
However, the government has been criticized for banning TikTok without taking any legal basis to suit the interests of other countries. Various stakeholders criticized the government’s move, claiming that the TikTok ban was against the right to freedom of expression and communication guaranteed by the constitution.
In this regard, 14 separate writs were also filed in the Supreme Court.
After the government banned it, the tendency to run TikTok with the help of VPN and Open DNS increased. On the other hand, it has been revealed that Nepal has suffered a huge financial loss due to the TikTok ban. Due to the displacement of cash servers and the increase in international bandwidth imports, Nepal has suffered a loss of two billion in the last nine months, while telecom and internet companies have lost about five billion in income.
TikTok had repeatedly written to various agencies of the Nepalese government to get the ban lifted. Just a few days ago, while sending a letter to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, TikTok stated that it is committed to following the policies and rules set by the Nepalese government.
