Telecom’s Call For Other Providers To Use Their Own Fiber Network Nepal Telecom has called upon internet service providers to use its optical fiber network. Telecom manager Bimal Acharya made this request in the middle of an event held in the capital a few days ago.
Telecom is building an information highway across the country using funds from the Rural Telecommunication Development Fund under the regulator Nepal Telecommunication Authority. Acharya said that among the high-capacity optical fiber projects, the Koshi province has been completed and the service can be provided. “I would like to call on all service providers to use this optical fiber network,” he said, “If fiber or bandwidth is needed anywhere in Koshi province, Nepal Telecom is ready to provide it according to the guidelines of the authority.”
It is said that the project is in the process of completion in Madesh province as well. According to Acharya, the project will be completed in Madhes province in this financial year as well.
“There is no need to be confused about its rate. We will operate this optical fiber network according to the guidelines of the authority,” Acharya further said, “In terms of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces, the good thing about it was that we could use the infrastructure of Nepal Telecom that is currently in place.”
He said that work is being done in that regard and most of the DWDM and router connection work has been completed. Mentioning that 1000 kilometers of fiber has been prepared along with the earlier fibers, Manager Acharya invited internet service providers to use their optical fiber in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces from this financial year as well.
“In terms of information superhighway, the optical fiber of Nepal has reached all the district headquarters. But it has not reached Humla, Mugu, and Dolpa,” he said. “Dolpa will be reached this financial year. The remaining mugu and Humla will take some more time.”
