After 5 Months Sam Altman Returns to the Board of OpenAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sam Altman has rejoined OpenAI’s Board of Directors after five months. Altman returned to the board after the completion of an internal investigation by the American legal organization Wilmer Hale on an incident that happened last September.
At that time, the board meeting of the company dismissed him as the CEO, showing that he could not run OpenAI and was not honest with the board. This incident created a kind of wave in the AI field. Also, in the following few days, OpenAI was unstable.
After Altman was fired, OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Mira Murati was appointed as acting CEO. Meanwhile, OpenAI’s board appointed Emmett Shear, co-founder of Amazon-owned video streaming site Twitch, as CEO.
But most of the company’s employees were on Altman’s side. Mass resignations unless they bring Altman back as CEO.
OpenAI’s board meeting held on Friday decided to bring Altman back to the board and add three more members. Among them are Sue Desmond Hellman, former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Nicole Seligman, the former chairman of Sony Entertainment, and Fiji Simo, the CEO of Instacart. With this, OpenAI’s board members have reached eight.
