Elon Musk Accuses OpenAI of Trying to Merge Itself with Tesla Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has accused billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk of trying to merge his company with Tesla. The company responded to a complaint filed by Musk, saying that OpenAI was focusing on profit.
In a blog post published Tuesday, OpenAI denied all of Musk’s claims against the company. In particular, the company rejected the argument made by Musk that OpenAI deviated from its initial goal of being a non-profit organization.
As we discussed the profit structure to advance the mission, it appeared that Musk wanted to merge the company with Tesla. He wanted to have full control over it,” the blog reads, “specifically, he wanted more equity in it, control over the initial board, and to become CEO.
The blog post was written by OpenAI co-founders Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, John Shulman, Sam Altman, and Wojciech Zaremba. The post continued, “We were unable to agree to for-profit terms with Alan because we felt that any individual control of OpenAI was against our mission.”
Especially when Microsoft invested in OpenAI, Musk was opposed to OpenAI. Musk became angry when the company went against the purpose for which he had invested in OpenAI.
According to Musk, OpenAI is reneging on the agreement it made. OpenAI has also shared a screenshot of the contract with Musk on its blog. OpenAI has stated in the post that it has never made an agreement to keep its work open source.
