How is your Windows laptop battery operated devices do not last forever. Windows laptops have a battery report feature for this, which lets you know if your battery is still running or if it’s at its last minute.
For this, you need to enter a simple line of code. The report will take you to an HTML file saved on your drive, which will show you battery usage data, capacity history, and estimated life. If the battery needs to be replaced, this report will let you know before the battery fails completely. Today we are telling you how to get the battery report first.
To generate a battery report in Windows 10:
You’ll need Windows PowerShell for this, a built-in command-line tool you’ve probably never used before.
The easiest way to reach it is to right-click on the Start icon and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) from the menu that appears there. A pop-up window may ask you for permission to make changes to your device from here. Click on “Yes.”.
Now the blue-colored powershell command will appear, where you can enter the command to automate certain tasks in Windows 10. Type the below command in the PowerShell window and press the Enter button.
powercfg /batteryreport /output “C:\battery-report.html”
The first part of this code will create an HTML file containing the battery report. Similarly, the second part inside the quote dictates where the file should be saved on your computer.
For example, you can see a file named battery-report.html saved on the C drive. Now you can safely close PowerShell.
For Windows 11:
This process is similar in Windows 11 as well. First, right-click on the Start icon, but then select Windows Terminal (Admin). Click “Yes” when a window pops up asking for permission to make changes to your device. n BB
This will open a Windows terminal. It is a tabbed terminal emulator that can run PowerShell, Command Prompt, and other command-line programs. Powershell will open by default, so enter the below code and hit enter.
powercfg /batteryreport /output “C:\battery-report.html”
Once the command is entered and pressed, PowerShell will tell you the name of the battery life report it prepared and where it is saved on your computer. Here you can see its name is battery-report.html, and it is saved in C drive. You can now close the Windows Terminal.
View the battery report
In the report, you can see the details of your laptop’s battery health. You can find out how well it is working and how long it can last. At the beginning of the battery report, you can see basic information about your computer, including battery specs.
In Recent Use, you can see every time your laptop has run on battery or AC power. The Battery Capacity History section shows how much the battery capacity has changed over time. The design capacity on the right is about how much power the battery was designed to provide.
Then comes the Battery Life Estimates section. To the right of that, you’ll find the design capacity, and to the left, how long it can actually last. You can see the current, i.e., last battery estimation at the end of the report.
