Citing Taiwanese site Economic Daily News, Nine to Five Mac, which writes about Apple, said that the company is working to bring AI features to the iPhone 16. For this, Apple may use the A18 chipset in the new iPhone series (iPhone 16).
If Apple does that, the chipset will have a more powerful neural engine compared to the A17 chip used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. In order to bring the AI feature to the iPhone 16, it is said that it is necessary for Apple to increase the number of cores (small types of processors) in the neural engine of the A17.
However, it has not been revealed how many cores will be added to the neural engine of A18. The latest chipset, the A17 Pro, has 16 cores. Based on that, the A18 may have a few more cores.
Apple has not yet increased the number of cores in its neural engine since the iPhone 12. Therefore, it is possible that Apple may change this to bring AI features to the iPhone.
Even with the same number of cores, Economic Daily wrote that the number of cores is not everything, mentioning that the neural engine of the 17 Pro is more powerful than that of the A16 Bionic. But it can be understood that Apple is preparing to bring AI features to the iPhone 16.
