Now you can send messages to WhatsApp from any messaging app. WhatsApp will soon have a feature that allows you to send messages from any messaging app. In an interview with the international media outlet Wired, the engineering director of WhatsApp, Dick Brouwer, revealed that they are going to establish interoperability with other messaging apps.

With the European Union’s Digital Market Act (DMA) policy to maintain interoperability in messaging apps, the company is about to introduce a feature that allows you to send messages from any messaging platform. With this feature, users will be able to send text, pictures, voice messages, videos, and files to WhatsApp from other messaging apps.

In particular, messages can be sent to WhatsApp from third-party messaging apps such as iMessage, Telegram, Google Message, and Signal, and from WhatsApp to these messaging apps. In that case, the question arises as to how Meta can keep the message safe and encrypted. As mentioned by Wired, WhatsApp has planned to maintain encryption by connecting the messaging services it connects to the same signal protocol.

The DMA has defined WhatsApp as a digital gatekeeper. That is why it is said that the company is going to bring about such a change.

Being a digital gatekeeper, Meta has to follow regulations to increase competition among various digital services. The DMA had directed Meta to implement such a feature by March 2024. There is no clear information about when Meta will make this feature available to users around the world.
