Today Sonam Lhosar 2082: The Year Of The Horse Begins. Today is the 2862nd Sonam Lhosar festival. This festival is celebrated with great joy as the new year by the Tamang community. Every year, this festival is celebrated on the day of Magh Shukla Pratipada.
Sonam Lhosar is divided into 12 categories: Rat, Cow, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon (Cloud), Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Bird, Dog, and Pig. Today marks the end of the Year of the Snake and the beginning of the Year of the Horse.
Researchers say that Lhosar is a nature-worshipping festival, as all 12 years are named after animals and birds.

A special cultural tableau, traditional songs and dances of the Tamang community, including Tamba, Bonbo and Lamas, will be presented during the festival. The main event committee has stated that there will also be performances by nationally and internationally renowned artists.
