Study Says: Extensions Slow Web Browsing The trend of using extensions to make the work done in the web browser more organized has been going on for a long time. Although the extension used in that way will help the user’s performance, it has been found that the capacity of the web browser will decrease.
According to a recent study by a group at DebugBear, extensions have been found to reduce the browser’s performance. The group tested over 5,000 popular Chrome extensions based on CPU processing, website load time, etc.
They concluded that 86 percent of those extensions affect website load times. If any extension is designed to load with the web page, then it is said to increase the website loading time. They say that the effect can be up to one thousand milliseconds (one second).
Their conclusion is that, in some cases, it affects not only the website load but also the interaction. However, it is mentioned that this effect happens in a very short time, and many people do not experience it.
