Social media bill to end Internet freedom! 35 organizations demand to scrap the draft. 35 organizations, including Digital Rights Nepal has demanded that the draft bill on social media use and regulation introduced by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology be scrapped. This demand has been put forward, saying that it will cause irreparable damage to Nepali citizens’ safe internet freedom, digital rights, right to freedom of speech, data security, right to criminal justice, etc.
Submitting a 56-page recommendation letter to the ministry, they have presented the problems in the bill in a three-point format.
“We strongly request that this draft be canceled and a new draft be prepared by addressing the suggestions of civil organizations and stakeholders, or that the draft be radically changed and only the revised draft be forwarded,” the suggestion letter said.
“In relation to the preparation of a new draft or radical changes in this draft, we would like to inform the Ministry that the civil society organizations are committed to providing the necessary support and cooperation.“
