Dedus attack on the website of the Government of Nepal Due to a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on the DNS server, it has been found that the government website is not open. Government sites were affected from 10 am on Monday. Talking to Tekpana, National Information Technology Center Information Officer Praveen Chauhan informed that the government website has been affected due to a DDoS attack on the DNS server.
“It seems that the sites are affected when the DDoS attack comes on the DNS server,” Chauhan said, “The sites are running from some IPs and some are not.
A lot of traffic came to our system. This showed signs of a didus attack. We are also blocking it to the best of our ability. However, as much as our devices should have been updated, some devices have not been updated.
A DDoS attack is an attack where someone floods the site with excessive traffic to affect the website. Chauhan said that such a problem arose because the security equipment in the office could not be updated on time.
“We have to get the support of some security equipment from the manufacturing company. Because the license has not been renewed due to lack of budget, we have not been able to get support,” he said.
Chauhan says that even though the site has not been opened from any ISP, it is being opened from mobile data and gradually the site will be opened from all other internet. However, sites that receive a lot of traffic are not being opened from both mobile data and the Internet.
Even on Sunday, when there was a problem with the DNS server, the government website was affected for about four hours.
Some attacks happened the government website went down and unable to log in to their sites to open over there. Some users will be trying to open the Nepal government’s official page to search it there. Some of the servers were too slow and unable to load their files.
