After sending 5000 fake iPhones for repair and taking genuine iPhones worth Rs 39 crore, two Chinese nationals have been found guilty of sending fake iPhones to Apple repair centers, hoping to get a new phone instead of a damaged one. The Columbia District Court in the United States found the young men guilty of sending 5,000 fake phones to get real phones.
Among those found guilty are 33-year-old Haosan Sun and Pangfei Chii. These Chinese citizens can be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison, according to Bloomberg.
It has been found that since 2017, they have been cheating by bringing fake iPhones from Hong Kong. It has been confirmed that they exchanged more than 5,000 fake iPhones over a period of seven years.
Thus, since 2017, it has been found that they have committed fraud worth about 3 million dollars (about 397.6 million rupees). The Times of San Diego reported that the two young men who were convicted had already spent 41 months in prison for exchanging iPhones and iPads.
It has also been revealed that they are selling the original iPhones that they brought in exchange to foreign nationals. Judge Timothy J. Kelly of the Columbia District Court has decided to set the sentence for this young man, who was found guilty on June 21.
