Anna Mani Birth Anniversary on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, celebrated the 104th birth anniversary of Indian physicist and meteorologist Anna Mani, one of the country’s first female scientists, with a special Doodle. Born on this day in 1918, Anna Mani was known for her work and research that made it possible for India to make accurate weather forecasts. 

Mani grew up in the former state of Travancore (present-day Kerala) as an avid reader all her life. After high school, she did her Intermediate Science course at Women’s Christian College (WCC). She completed a Bachelor of Science with honors in physics and chemistry from Presidency College, Madras. 

Anna Mani was a journalist, freedom fighter, diplomat, lawyer, and social reformer. She was the first woman in India to obtain a degree in law. She also became the first Indian woman to practice as a barrister when she was called to the Bar from the Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London. She worked as the High Court correspondent for ‘The Free Press Journal’ from November 1914 to December 1915 and was the first woman in India to report from the High Court. A good friend of mine in the US, Anna Mani, is celebrating her 104th birthday this month. Anna is a fantastic artist, and she has been a very dear friend to me for about 40 years now. She lives in a small town in the US, and we don’t get to see each other very often, but we stay in touch with each other via email, and we also talk to each other on the phone once in a while. Anna Mani was born in 1876 in Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu. Her father, Mani Iyer, was a zamindar or landlord. Her mother was Seshammal.

Anna Mani was born on 20th May 1887 at Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. After completing his studies, he went on to join the Indian Freedom Movement. He became a prominent social worker and a devotee of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Anna Mani is one of the early leaders who joined Gandhi in South Africa, and later became a part of the Indian National Congress. He was also part of the Tamil Sangam and was a successful writer.
